Myths and Truths

With all the different religions out there, each has its own myths and truths. Wicca and witchcraft is often the most hit by them.

Myth: All witches practice black magick

Truth: True magick is neither black nor white, it depends on the user and thier intent. The Wiccan Rede reads "An it harm none, do what ye will". There fore vary few witches practice for selfish reasons.

Myth; Witches sign a pact with the Devil.

Truth: In Wicca there is no Devil. How can you worship something that doesn't exsist?? Witches resume personal responsibility, we are responsible for what we do, there is no blaming outside forces.

Myth: Witchcraft is a 'pick and mix' religion.

Truth: While witchcraft has no overall set formulas or defining text, you are expected to make your own judgements. What is right one day may be wrong the next, and what is wrong one day may be right the next. Many people believe that since there aren't enough rules, it's not a real religion.

Myth: Sex and nudity is all witchcraft is about.

Truth: There are many ancient fertile religions, Wicca is one of them. Fertility and sex are often confused, it's not just about making babies. Fertility is about new ideas and insperation.

Myth: A witch lives with a familiar, a black cat, a toad or other animals.

Truth: The ida that witches have a  familiar goes back to burning times, when a person would be accused of being a witch for living with an animal all by themslves, when they only wanted someone to keep them company.

Myth: Witches are ugly, with hooked noses and warts.

Truth: 'Would you want to look like a stereotypical witch and not get rid of those things?' If you spread the idea that witches are ugly, not many people would be interested.

Myth: Witches sacrfice animals.

Truth: There is a great respect for nature and all creatures in Wicca. We don't believe in killing animals and making blood sacrifices.Wiccans do however sacrifice time and energy.
